Cape Verde

Quite unlike anywhere else in Africa in topography and culture, Cape Verde has one of the world’s most egalitarian and peaceful mixed-race societies. Caboverdeans set great store by two abstract concepts: sodade, a melancholic, nostalgic love for their homeland which is expressed through their superb, gypsy-like music; and morabeza, which roughly translates as warm hospitality, a quality which you will not fail to experience if you venture away from the newly developed resort areas on Sal and Boa Vista to seek out the islands’ local hangouts. . .
