Comoros

Situated south of the Seychelles, Comoros and Mayotte are little-known islands with lush vegetation and rich marine life. Though remote and somewhat ramshackle, they have the kind of faraway atmosphere that appeals to independent-minded tourists with reasonable French and an interest in nature.

There are four main islands in this spice-scented Islamic archipelago: Mayotte, which is a French territory, and Grande Comore, Mohéli and Anjouan, which together comprise the republic of the Union of Comoros (Union des Comores). . .
