As well as its impressive rainforests, Congo’s natural attractions include an Atlantic coastline washed by brisk surf where hardcore longboarders and bodyboarders test their mettle. Upcountry Congo is a good place to get a taste of rural life in the Congo Basin – sampling roasted caterpillars or river fish baked in cassava leaves, perhaps, or challenging the locals to a game of babyfoot on a rickety table under a mango tree. . .
Parc National d’Odzala is 500km north of Brazzaville, near the Gabonese border, and very hard to reach. There’s no nearby airport and, by road, the journey may take several days. This is a dense, verdant chunk of rainforest and grassy clearings populated by western lowland gorillas and other primates, plus forest elephants. . .
